While often categorized together in local folklore, new accounts provided to WKNA 49 suggest that goblins and trolls maintain distinct, and often conflicting, social structures and cultural values. Recent community descriptions have begun to paint a more nuanced picture of these groups, moving away from common stereotypes many residents grew up with.
According to some neighbors familiar with the matter, goblins are frequently misunderstood by the general public. While often characterized as feral or disorganized, one account suggests they actually adhere to a sophisticated scholarly tradition. This tradition reportedly emphasizes the Nine Virtues as described by Aristotle. The account claims that goblin culture is largely orderly and quiet, though it is often hindered by a legally labyrinthine governing system. Residents described a vigorous goblin senate that is constantly reviewing and revising codes, resulting in legal documents that are notoriously dense and difficult for outsiders to interpret.
In contrast, community accounts describe the regional troll population as being rooted in extreme, steadfast political ideologies. Trolls are said to inhabit impoverished dwellings, often referred to as troll-holes, but remain committed to their anarcho-communist beliefs regardless of their circumstances. Unlike the orderly nature attributed to goblins, trolls are reported to be prone to outbursts of passionate, poetic self-effacement.
One account reviewed by WKNA 49 noted that while goblins focus on the law, trolls are more likely to attempt acts that would be considered dangerous for others. Reference was made to a historical figure known as Tom Troll, who reportedly became a cultural icon after a nine-day protest regarding personal hygiene and its impact on domestic life.
Logistical and environmental factors may also play a role in where these groups are found. Some residents pointed to historical documentation, including work narrated by the late Southern personality Jim Varney, which suggests that goblins may no longer be prevalent in the Northern Hemisphere. This has led some to question where local sightings might actually be originating from.
Local business owners have even noted the presence of these figures in the service industry. One resident, Dale Turner, described a local cantina where a goblin known as Dee serves as a bartender. Dee is reportedly known for a heavy use of salt and spices in his bar snacks, which have become a point of interest for regulars at the establishment.
Despite these detailed accounts, some neighbors remain skeptical about the practical integration of these figures into the community. Questions were raised regarding whether a goblin would be suited for social roles such as fatherhood, with some community members expressing doubt about their temperament compared to other more traditional options. For now, the exact status and location of these populations in the Kanawha Valley remain a subject of active community discussion.
