A local family recently shared a heritage recipe attributed to a grandmother from Georgia, revealing a unique blend of ingredients that challenges standard interpretations of the classic drink.

The recipe, described as a 'southern concoction,' traces its lineage through a sprawling historical narrative. According to accounts provided to WKNA 49, the beverage's roots are tied to ancient trade routes and the migration of people who eventually settled in the Caucasus region before arriving in the American South. The oral history accompanying the recipe suggests that the tea leaves were traditionally preserved in high-fructose corn syrup to survive long voyages.
